Internet Security Program for Windows
Web
Padlock
Web Padlock is a program that provides access control and usage
management over your computer's Web browser. This gives you control over
what Web pages can be viewed on your computer. Once installed, Web Padlock
blocks other Web browsers (like Internet Explorer, Netscape, or America Online)
from running. This leaves Web Padlock as the only available Web browser.
In order to view any Web page on Web Padlock when Web Padlock is in the locked
mode, that Web page must have been added to the authorized Web page list.
A user selected password is required to add Web pages to this list. This
provides the person who installs Web Padlock with the ability to completely
control access to the Internet on that computer. This program is most useful
in a business setting, where the supervisor needs the ability
to control what Web sites employees can visit. It can also be useful
in a family setting, however, to give parents control of the computer to
block children from viewing certain sites.
Web Padlock can be unlocked using the password to allow free
Web surfing using Web Padlock. The password can also be used to turn off
the blocking of other Web browsers, like Internet Explorer. In this way,
Web Padlock can be used not only to control what sites are visited, but when
the Web can be accessed. If you decide that you do not want to use Web Padlock
at all, it can easily be uninstalled using the password.
Note: Because America Online bundles all of its functions
(Web surfing, email, etc.) in one program, Web Padlock cannot be used to
only block Web surfing if America Online is your only access to the Internet.
If you are using America Online dialup, Web Padlock can only be used to limit
the times when America Online can be used, not specific content. Web Padlock
works best when you normally use Internet Explorer or Netscape to browse
the Internet.
Web Padlock is available as shareware ($25 individual fee, with volume discounts available). Try it for a month to see if you like it before you have to pay for it. Just download the install file to your computer, then run the file like a program by double-clicking on the install file in Windows Explorer or My Computer to install Web Padlock. Remember that complete instructions are provided for uninstalling Web Padlock if you decide that you do not like it. Web Padlock runs on Windows 95/98/2000/XP/ME (does not work on NT).
